Individual Marie Curie Research Fellowships

Document Actions
Marie Curie Actions offer three possibilities for individual fellowship grants within Framework 6.

Intra-European Fellowships
Outgoing International Fellowships
Incoming International Fellowships

Deadline for submission: January 19, 2006
Submission: on-line via the Commission’s EPSS (Electronic Proposal Submission System). Details are given in the "Guide for Proposers" found in the information packages.
Who can apply? Researchers of all ages with at least four years' experience or with a doctorate degree.
Who should prepare the application? The proposal should be prepared jointly by the researcher and the host institution. Usually, it is the researcher who prepares the proposal and the host institution should agree on the content.

The fellowship opportunities are described in further detail below and links are provided to access the on-line submission tool and information packages with all necessary documents necessary to fill in the proposal forms. The Intra-European Fellowship is recommended to move between partners already existing in the SPICE network. However, if you are interested in working outside of the EU, for example with our sister network CIG in the US, the possibility exists through and Outgoing International Fellowship. In addtion, the Incoming International Fellowship can be used to bring researchers from outside the EU to the network.
This is an excellent opportunity for experienced researchers to respond to their individual needs for complementary training (advanced training, multi-disciplinary fields, research management, etc) or to continue their career. Please read though the Marie Curie Handbooks in advance to better understand the proposal process (found in the information packages).

Intra-European Fellowships:
These fellowships are open to EU and Associated State researchers of all ages with at least four years' professional experience or a doctorate degree. The purpose is to give them the financial means to undertake advanced training through research or to acquire complementary skills at a European organisation most suited to their professional needs. This will give researchers the final boost they need to reach professional independence. Before applying for funding, researchers must find a research team in an EU or Associated State willing to take them on for a one- to two-year stay.

Outgoing International Fellowships:
Outgoing International Fellowship allow experienced researchers from EU or Associated States to broaden their international research experience by spending time at a research centre outside the EU and Associated States for periods of between one and three years, including a compulsory return phase. Before applying for this fellowship, potential applicants must find suitable host organisations in a third country, for the so-called 'outgoing phase', and in an EU or Associated State, for the 'return phase'. Applicants submit a proposal to the Commission together with their two host organisations. The Commission selects the most appropriate candidates and signs a contract with the fellow's host return organisation. The fellow then signs a contract with this organisation and is seconded to the host institution in the third country for the duration of the outgoing phase. Typically two-thirds of the fellowship will be spent in a third country and the remainder in an EU or Associated State.

Incoming International Scholarships:
Incoming International Fellowships target experienced researchers from outside the EU and Associated States who want to move to Europe to take part in research training. Again, fellows must have at least four years' experience and must agree a work programme with a research organisation in an EU or candidate country before applying. The applicant applies to the Commission jointly with the host institution. Again, the Commission selects the most suitable applicant and signs a contract with the host. The fellow agrees and signs a contract with the host organisation for a stay of between one and two years. In the case of incoming international fellowships, there is a possibility of a reintegration phase for researchers from developing countries and emerging and transition economies.
